bloom

I will never know how it is that 9 months of pregnancy seem to go by so slow, especially the last few weeks. Yet once your tiny babe arrives, time seems to speed up without your permission as if you are on one of those swift walkways they have at the airport pulling you to your destination.  Those newborn days and nights immediately intertwine into one 2 hour feeding/changing/sleeping cycle right after the other.

Simply put…You cannot have enough photographs. You cannot have enough videos. For what you think you will remember, will fade, and soon the sleepy coos will be replaced with blowing raspberries and silly giggles.

It is true. These are the sweetest days.

So many of my beautiful blooming clients from all over Fort Smith, Little Rock, Northwest Arkansas and Oklahoma are loving the maternity/newborn combo session. Contact the studio for details!

Every single one of them is amazing!

family portraits

Today I came across a moving blog post from a friend, Deb Schwedhelm about an article that discusses what in fact makes a great portrait.  Two ideas of those stood out to me:

a meaningful connection
an emotional exchange

I hope that my portrait work be of those two ideas and that I capture a family in a true manner – not a façade. But even going a step further, I want the entire experience to have meaning. A meaning that takes parents (and one day their children) back to that time, just as quickly as a familiar song or smell.

A session this week with a Fort Smith, Arkansas family completed this thought.

Raye,

Just wanted to say thank you again for such a fun and wonderful experience yesterday.  This morning my husband said “yesterday was a really good day” and I agree!  Can’t wait to see the photographs.  You were great with the kids.  We were a large group and I’m sure that has to add difficulty.  We super enjoyed the session :)

….

Talk to you soon,
Tiffany

Thank you Tiffany for letting go and loving your family in front of my camera.

Raye, your work gives a true description of a family – a bond, love, laughter, and warmth. Such an amazing gift you share. Looking forward to the day you can do my family. :) xoxo

I think you are definitely successful in capturing the connection and love in a family in an intimate and immediate way. I have always loved the honesty and emotion in your family work:).

newborn travel photographer . four beautiful days . nova scotia canada

In July 2010, I traveled to Halifax, NS Canada to photograph a miracle newborn baby – Will. I spent four beautiful days with him and his gorgeous parents, Kerianne and Courtney Brown. I’ve wanted to do a blog post worth its weight, and since travel and sessions hinder my blogging time, it was delayed.

Will, you have such a sweet spirit. You gave one of my best friends a special gift many months ago…making her a mommy. I see you grow online before my eyes. I am reminiscent of my own days of bottles and wipes, giggles and cries, toofers and tooters. Thank you for coming down to this earth to bless us all, because you have already changed our world.

You can watch Will’s entire newborn gallery in a slideshow at the end of this post. My four beautiful days with him.

This must have been an amazing experience for you. You did a wonderful job capturing the love between the parents and Baby Will. You have to truely be proud of this.

There will never be the right words or enough “thank yous” to convey how incredibly special these are to us. Not only are they special because they are images of our miracle baby boy…. the one who made me a Mama and who breathed a new and beautiful life into our world; however, these photos also represent the gorgeous days we spent together. I will never forget every minute of those 4 days. Thank you for being such an amazing friend. I often wonder how I lucked out having such incredible people who are intricate parts of my life. xoxo

Breathtaking!!!

Breathtakingly beautiful. What an amazing gift.

Very beautiful, intimate images, love them Raye. What a gift!

Coming Home .. Lifetime television show

Have you seen Lifetime Channel’s new series on Sunday nights called Coming Home? This show documents military homecomings in original and moving ways.

One reunion in episode 2 is special to me. You see, Little Scout, who I photographed last fall, got to meet her daddy for the very first time. She was joined by her two big brothers and her amazing mommy, Stephanie who waited so long for that moment.

You can see more behind the scenes on Stephanie’s blog and the episode is also online (I believe her story begins around minute 14).

I can just imagine Scout all grown up one day watching it over and over. What a priceless thing to have.
